Essential Listening : #22 Mat Wale

Wether it be as part of semi-legendary band Mat Wale & The Rackets, Mat Wale & Friends, or various other bands and side projects, Mat Wale has been writing and recording for almost ten years (though he barely seems old enough for it to be that long).

The one constant through many guises is the quality of song writing, and laid back yet perfectly delivered performances that Evan Dando would be proud of.

Taking on the influence of some of the country greats, filtered through US college rock and British guitar bands he’s currently taking things back to basics with a brand new solo EP Use Your Disillusion (launched with dates at The Showroom and The Green Room in Sheffield on the 24th and 29th of this month).

At last count there are 17 EPs out there worth seeking out. You’ll find a song for every broken heart.
