We’ll begin at the end, January 31st, when Canadian duo Whitehorse make their UK ‘debut’ at the Railway Inn, Winchester. We say ‘debut’ as it’s the first official outing for Luke Doucet and Melissa McClelland‘s duo project on these shores, though not the first time they have toured together here. They also play London and Brighton in February with more UK dates expected in May.
One of the worst gigs i’ve ever had the misfortune to see was when Josh Rouse toured his (indifferent) Nashville album. So a string of dates for him is perhaps nothing to get excited about. Were it not for the fact that James Walbourne and Kami Thompson will be supporting in Gateshead, Nottingham, Liverpool, York and London. Dates here. Hopefully Josh will be feeling a little more 1972.
As they continue to promote their new album Pencaitland there are four January dates for the Edinburgh based roots collective Southern Tenant Folk Union. They play Washington’s Davy Lamp Folk Club on the 21st, the following weekend taking in Norwich, Banbury and Reading.
And for the lucky people of Glasgow, Celtic Connections kicks off on January 19th featuring a whole host of great acts. We’d suggest catching Martin Simpson on the 26th. Full details at: http://www.celticconnections.com
Check dates etc. before travelling and happy gig going. If we haven’t mentioned something you think we should, let us know here.
